Poisons And Medicines For Babies
- Thousands of young
children are poisoned each year in WA. Because they have small bodies they
can be poisoned much more easily than adults.
- Use child proof
containers for medications.
- We all know that
cleaning materials and many garden products are poisonous, but often
children are poisoned by things we use everyday such as:
- perfume
- cigarettes and alcohol
- hair spray
- cough and cold
medicines
- fly spray
- cosmetics
- ointments.
- Keep your child safe
from everyday poisons by:
- storing all medicines
together in one place, locked up and out of reach (including things like
paracetamol and contraceptive pills)
- checking your bedside
table and the bathroom to make sure 'everyday things' there can't poison
your child
- keeping cigarettes and
alcohol out of reach - even the butts and dregs
- checking your handbag
and keeping your child away from visitors' handbags
- being a good role
model and telling your child some things are dangerous - show how to put
them out of reach.
