Soothing A Baby
- There is nearly always
something which will stop a baby crying. You'll need to find out what
suits your baby by trial and error. Some babies like to be wrapped up
tightly (swaddled), some don't. Some like a dummy, some don't.
- Most babies like being
close to you, either in your arms or a sling.
- If your baby has colic
hold them over your arm or knee so there is gentle pressure on the
stomach. Try pushing the pram over tiles or something which rocks it
gently. A car ride can work magic - watch out for red lights!
- Some babies like music,
family sounds or the radio.
- Baby massage can work
wonders. Just warm a little baby oil or olive oil, put the baby in a warm
and comfortable place and gently smooth the oil over your baby's back and
legs for a few minutes. If you want more information many maternity
hospitals will be able to help.
- If your baby is still
crying go to your doctor or chemist. Remember as babies get older they cry
less.
