Spoiling Babies

Spoiling Babies?

  • No one wants selfish children. We want them to be considerate and caring of others.
  • What is seen as 'spoiling' to one family will seem normal in another.
  • What is 'rude' or 'late' or 'too many'? Is it different for a baby, a toddler and an older child?
  • It is up to you and your family to work out what is right and important. This takes time but there are benefits.
  • For the first year babies don't know about other people's needs - they are too busy eating, growing and learning.
  • Looking after a baby's needs helps them learn about trust and to feel secure. Babies learn about caring from the example of others.
