Preschoolers Bedwetting

  • Preschool children still wet the bed sometimes. Bladder control develops with time. When a little child is very tired and deeply asleep they may not recognise their own 'need to go' signals.
  • Don't make a fuss. Be practical, strip the wet sheet and encourage your child to help. Remember, they may be feeling ashamed, guilty or self conscious. By being matter of fact and non blaming you can help their self esteem.
  • A mattress protector might be a good idea or some children may be prepared to wear nappies or pull ups through the night. If the toilet is a long way from the bedroom a potty might be useful.
  • If a child has been dry for a longer time and then begins to wet the bed again it may be a sign of stress. Check what is happening during their day.
  • Seek help when you or your child is distressed about the bed wetting or if they are soiling the bed during the night.
