Preschoolers Returning To Bed
- Part of your child's
bedtime routine should be a system for returning to bed. Some families
have firm rules while others are more flexible. You must decide what is
best for you and your child.
- When a child gets up
think about the routine. Are you being consistent? Did something happen in
the child's day which worried them? Should their bedtime be changed? Do
they need the light on a bit longer?
- Preschool aged children
are learning about time. Sometimes five minutes in bed 'trying to go to
sleep' can feel like ages. If they get up respond calmly. Put them back in
bed. Make as little fuss as possible and leave the room soon.
- If you have to move
your child while they are sleeping quietly tell them what you are doing.
It will reassure them if they wake up and help them settle down again.
