Is My Child Gifted?
- It's hard to tell if
children are gifted at a very young age. Early walking and talking are two
possible signs.
- Children develop at
different rates and by the time children reach school the early talker and
walker and the late walker and talker can be at the same level.
- There are things which
suggest children are gifted such as:
- having a lot of words
which are clear
- being able to do
something for a long time
- creating complex games
from common objects
- having an 'adult'
sense of humour
- being a good leader
- preferring to make
friends with older children.
- Whether your child is
gifted or not, encourage their interests by:
- taking them to places
which will support their interest
- finding books in
libraries about that subject
- not pushing - children
have childlike emotions and physical growth even when they are 'bright'
- encouraging their
strengths, caring for others, music, movement, knowledge
- encouraging social
skills - children who don't have good social skills can feel left out at
school.
