Primary Schoolers Learning At Home
- Some of the best ways to
help children learn, enjoy and do well at school and get a good start in
life is by:
- reading (or seeing you
reading) recipes, the labels on cans and packets, TV guides, newspapers,
magazines, signs in shops and streets
- measuring things out
to make a cake or to fix something which is broken
- paying for things in
the shop, working out how much one thing costs if there are six in the
packet, and which things are the best value
- talking about what
things are bigger, lighter or shorter; what things 'go together' and
why; what things are made of and how you can tell; and why things happen
- playing and learning
how to control their bodies as they run, jump, climb, skip, throw a
ball, draw, paint and play in the sand
- being with others,
working with others, being part of a team
- being creative and
imaginative as they pretend
- learning to control
their feelings, waiting, being aware of others, listening and following
instructions
- learning from you as
you work with and beside them.
- Knowing what is
happening in your child's school will also help.
