Primary Schoolers Special Programs

  • Children who can't learn in the same way as others have learning difficulties. A new way has to be found to teach them and this takes time and patience.
  • Schools help children with learning difficulties in ways such as:
    • there may be a separate classroom
    • part of the day may be spent in a separate classroom or group
    • an assistant, parent, consultant or other teacher may come in to the classroom to help.
  • Some children are put in a different program until they can cope with the regular classroom.
  • Some children need the extra help of a special program throughout their schooling.
  • Sometimes children with learning difficulties may:
    • need more time to do things
    • do fewer examples in the same time
    • do the same kind of lesson but in a simpler way
    • have things to touch, move or hold which help them understand
    • use a computer for written assignments
    • use audiotapes to help them read
    • be given (by their doctor) medication.
  • There are no simple quick solutions for learning disabilities. but encouragement and praise will help your child's self esteem.
