Primary Schoolers Talking To Teachers
- Some parents find it
really hard to talk to their child's teacher.
- Teachers may use words
which some parents find hard to understand. If you are not sure ask the
teacher what they mean - to explain more clearly.
- It can be difficult when
you are talking about your child:
- try and prepare for
the meeting
- write down questions
and take them with you
- be sure you and the
teacher know why you are meeting
- make sure the meeting
is at a good time for both of you.
- During the meeting:
- take notes
- write the date on the
top of the paper
- stay positive -
remember you are trying to work together
- tell the teacher what
you understand has been said
- ask them to explain
anything you don't understand
- work on solutions
rather than just talking about problems
- look at samples of
your child's work
- listen as the teacher
explains what your child can do.
- It will help you and
your child if:
- you get to know the
teacher
- have frequent chats
about your child's progress
- go to school meetings
- join in the morning
and afternoon teas, breakfasts or suppers when you can
- do things to help the
teacher in the classroom when you can
- help out with trips.
