Teenagers Careers And Courses
- The choices today are
endless and you should enlist some professional help from your teenager's
school, from career guidance services and other sources when helping them
make one of the biggest decisions of their life - their future career.
- However, you don't have
to be an expert to get them thinking about their future:
- ask them what they are
interested in.
- what are their skills
and abilities - what are they good at?
- talk to teachers to
see what they think would interest and suit your teenager.
- help them research the
type of jobs which interest them by checking the qualifications needed,
the work and pay conditions offered.
- talk to a careers
counsellor about their options.
- find out where
training and education courses are run.
- Remember, teenagers
regularly change their minds. The best you can do is offer practical and
emotional support to help them make their own choices, be it a job,
apprenticeship, further training at TAFE or university or time off for a
bit of travel and 'life experience'.
