Teenagers Dietary Guidelines

  • Try to eat the following each day:
    • fruit
    • vegetables
    • potatoes, rice, pasta
    • cereals and breads - preferably wholegrain
    • protein- red meat, chicken, fish, cheese, beans.
  • Try to eat less of the following:
    • salt
    • fat
    • sugars
    • takeaways - which are usually high in fats, salt and sugars
    • packet chips, crisps etc.
  • Try to eat foods high in calcium - milk, low fat cheese, yoghurt.
  • Eating foods high in iron such as red meat, eggs, sardines, salmon is particularly important for girls and women.
