Every kid is different. Some kids are born genius while some need little motivation with their studies. Some study happily on their own while some get easily bored and distracted. You will have to constantly keep a check on some kids while some dutifully follow their routine. If your child has poor study skills, he needs help at an early age itself to help him develop better study methods.
Selecting a quite spot to study
Make sure your child has a separate spot to study like either having a study room or a room where the television and computer is turned off. Even if the child wants to study in his room, make sure his music system is turned off and keep a check constantly to make sure he is concentrating on his studies.
Importance of good study habits
Help your child recognize the importance of developing good study skills. Explain them that it will benefit them in the future too. Encourage him to learn studying on his own. And it will help them score better grades.
Be available for your child
Be there for your child whenever he needs you while studying. He may have certain queries, you should answer them. Make them feel you are equally participating in their studies and learning process. They will feel motivated to study better because they know you are there to help.
Getting yourself familiar with the changing syllabus
It is necessary to get yourself familiar with the study material and methods so that you can teach your child and clear his doubts. Subjects such as mathematics have various methods so you need to know which method is the school adopting. It will help you to teach your child better.
Making studying more fun
You should think of unique ways of studying. Be little creative and help him develop short cues to remember important points. Ask your child questions and viewpoints and let him use his brains to find answers. Once in a while let him use the web to research more about various topics they have to study. You can also buy them books to read in order to not just make them confined to their syllabus but also increase their general knowledge.
Knowing your child’s limitations
Understand every child is different. So don’t push your child to study like eight hours at a stretch. Some children can study for hours without a break while others would need frequent breaks in between. It is alright to give slight leeway to kids. If you don’t work according to your child’s ability to learn and his limitations, you will never help him learn effectively.
Studies are not always fun, kids can get bored easily, but you should motivate your child to study for regular number of hours. Don’t be pushy with kids; they need to be handled with care.
