Reality shows have caught on Indian television with a bang. On every channel there are at least two reality shows for kids, whether it is based on dance or singing. And not only children but mostly parents are more enthusiastic and have more expectations from their children. And one actually wonders looking at hordes of crowds coming for the auditions, that do all these kids want to really participate because they love dancing or singing. Or is it just to have fame and be a celebrity.
Encourage talent
Yes, if your child has that innate talent of dancing or singing or making people laugh, then you should encourage him to enhance it further. And it might be difficult for the child to have realistic goals in childhood. He might say he wants to be a dancer but might grow up to be an engineer. So you need to talk to him what does he really want to do? Why does he want to participate in the show to show his talent or just to get fame?
Children don’t have decision making skill
Though nowadays kids do mature early and have far more understanding, still you should ask your kid why he wants to take part in the reality show. It might be because his friend is participating. It makes no sense to go just because his friend is going. Therefore talking and asking questions as to why does he want to go for the audition? And if you realize that your child just purely wants to show his talent, only then you should take him for the auditions.
Parents should not push the child
Parents should not force their child to participate in these shows. Sometimes the prize money can be alluring and parents can force their children who might not even have any passion or training to participate in these shows. You might try to live out your dream sometimes through them. That is not right and your child will lose focus in his studies also and might not be able to do well in his auditions too because he doesn’t have any inclination towards participation.
Negative effects of these reality shows
Children have delicate minds. And can get affected easily if they don’t get selected at the auditions or don’t win the show. Their studies might also get affected. And parents become too emotionally involved and pressurize the child into winning. Some adolescents might have unlimited ambitions in their mind. Parents should help them understand their drawbacks and encourage winning spirit. But also help them focus on their studies, because basic education is very important in practicality.
