Passport Status

The last step before an applicant can collect his passport is to check the status of the passport. It is a very simple process and can be done in the following manner.

When you submit the application form at the passport office the passport officer will give you a slip. This slip is needed to check the status of your passport so keep it safely.

The slip will have a 13 digit number. Eg (MDEU002244660). The number will be on the 4th line of the printed receipt.

Then visit the official passport site www. Passport.gov.in. On the home page there will be an option called the status page. In order to check your passport status click on your city and the page will appear.

On the page the applicant has to enter the city where he / she applied for the passport, the 13 digit file no. and the year. Then he has to click on the Submit button.

There are 2 boxes for the 13 digit number. Once you have selected your city the extension code of the city will automatically appear in the first box of the file reference number.

From the 13 digit number strike out the first 3 and last 2 digits. Fill the remaining 8 digits in the second box of file reference no. on the online status check page.

Next select the year you have applied in.

Then click on the submit button.

Once the applicant is done with all this the status of his/her passport will appear on the page. If the status shows the passport is ready then it will be delivered to the applicants mailing address. If not ready then check the status again after a few days.
