Punjabi songs

 

Punjabi music and songs is estimated to have originated between the 14th and 15th century. Farmers sang songs in their dialect as they worked in the fields. This Punjabi music and songs kept them going from dawn to dusk. They got popular during festivals especially baisakhi. The music was intriguing and instilled energy and rhythm into the life of its singers.

Punjab has a very rich culture. All Punjabis are great foodies and the zest for life is seen in every section of the community. Punjabis are extremely fun loving people who believe that life is all about song-dance and merriment. Be it a casual day or a business meet the land of Punjab reverberates with melody. Ladies hum songs while doing their chores. Lodi or the sankranth in the month of January is a great feat with a bonfire and giddha dance performance.

It is very common that people gather in the farms or in the terrace of their bungalows to sing a few folk songs. Anything serves as a musical instrument. The spoon is hit on the drum in musical fashion. There is also great music with shouts, pauses and clapping of hands. The bhangra is now seen as a global music form. The latest inclusions from NRI musicians also includes music which has the fusion element with jazz and rap.

The blending of the east and west is seen in most Punjabis albums. People love the beats and the lyrics are hummable owing to their popularity. The giddha dance is a special type of movement of legs and hands which each Punjabi lady is an expert. Bollywood is constantly employing Punjabi music in most of its film songs. There are ghazals and romantic songs too in Punjabi music. The infusion of Punjabi lyrics in Hindi songs is well accepted. Gurbani music is the most revered form of prayer. The renditions are extremely meaningful and soulful with perfect pauses. This is surely an experts area and this kind of soul stirring music moves us all. The sarson the saag and makke di roti is an absolute necessity during the season. It is almost another necessity that each Punjabi is able to sing and dance.

Weddings are great times and one should never miss the chance at the ladies sangeet. There are direct comments on the groom and his family. There are instances enacted and this is all done in jocular event. The scene is sportive and all ends well. People love sipping tea and making lassi (buttemilk). They serve huge ladoos and rabdi and this makes their music more sweet.

Punjabi music can be segregated into a variety of music like bhangara, jhumar, luddi, giddha, julli and even more. This vibrant style of music spread into the neighbouring territories. With people migrating the music migrated too. As it was very intimidating to the listener it grew even more popular.

In today’s world, Punjabi music and songs have acquired an important place on the international music scene. Music charts are flaming with this Asian culture.

Typical accents and live music enraptures every listener. Punjabi music and songs now shares the podium among popular brands like reggae, rock, etc. In today’s world of mix and blend, Punjabi music is even infused in European song styles. And this new sensation is taking centre stage all over the world. With this Indians should pride themselves that Indian music culture is potent to stimulate the world.
