Stained glass painting, or etching has become a common hobby
amongst Indian women. Actually stained glass as an art originates
from Medieval Europe. It has only recently found its way into India.
In the initial stages many art dealers brought this art form to be
sold to art connoisseurs, and gradually as people learnt the craft,
it started becoming a hobby.

Basically there are two types of stained glass paintings. One is
where glass pieces are etched and stuck on a thick sheet of glass
completing a pattern; and the other is where special paints for
glass are used to create the desired design. Thus, depending on the
medium of glass artwork, the stained glass patterns vary.
|
You can either select a pattern from a book, have it enlarged and
xeroxed in accordance to the size of painting you want. Or then you
can sketch out your own pattern.
Stained glass patterns are
different from normal drawings, and also vary from other medium of
art such as canvas painting, ceramic painting, etc.
They call for
more play of solid colors rather than the shaded effect.

The patterns that one can create on glass could be something that
represents nature such as birds, animals, insects, flowers, trees;
an entire scenery like the countryside, a village, etc. Then one can
work on people and situations. For instance it could be a glass
painting of a well-known public figure. Most Indian glass artists
prefer ethnic and traditional themes such as paintings of the Gods
and Goddesses, etc. ~
