study habits

You can have everything that you want to succeed academically a good school or university, the best of faculty and good facilities for studying, but if you do not prepare for success, it can never be yours. You need good study habits to trigger success. This point cannot be emphasized enough.

No one else can be responsible for your actions. The onus to succeed is wholly on you and hence the corresponding responsibility is also yours. This involves the setting of priorities; managing your time optimally and steeling yourself to rigorously stick to schedules. Discipline and system go a long way in ensuring success. While establishing priorities, be resolute enough to decide what you want for yourself rather than being dictated to. What is important to you may be of no consequence to others. Remember, Your values and your principles belong only to you. Work in a focused manner channelising all your energies into achieving your goals.

Each person has a key productive period and a favorite place for studying. When you tackle difficult subjects, prioritize the period and the place. It has been noticed that this actually helps you to tackle the challenges with more gusto. Whenever you perform, give your best, be it in class, before the teachers or at home. All situations must be win-win by nature. Never be content with a single solution to a problem, all problems have more than one solution. Finding different solutions helps you to diversify and you will always find new ways of trying to answer a particular question. Work diligently on assignments and treat everyone of them as a challenge. That way, the end product is an exquisite piece of work. Homework however insignificant is good practice, and practice helps to attain perfection.

Be open minded about issues. There is always something that you do not know. Humility in study and modesty in work augurs well for you. Do not confine yourself to the prescribed textbooks. Go beyond and you will find the exciting world of infinite knowledge waiting to be absorbed. Give to others more than you get. Knowledge shared is knowledge doubled. In the process of teaching others, you learn better.

Read and write in adequate light, and ensure that you do not overdo. This could be stressful and could defeat your purpose. Yoga, especially pranayam and meditation is known to have beneficial effects. Pranayam allows more oxygen to circulate and meditation helps students to concentrate. Lack of concentration has been the bane of many. Allow yourself to relax before you go to sleep, read a book or listen to music. It soothes the tired nerves and helps you to be fresh for the challenges that the next day brings. Never give up, the failure to try is worse than failure itself. Hard work never hurt anyone.
