Voice over IP is into
picture since 1970’s and is helping business market in various ways but
from past few years many of its disadvantages are been discovered
however technical experts are working on it. It combines not only voice
but also date on one platform hence problems are faced.
Problems are arising due to one platform will affect machines as well as
telephone services. Viruses is also a factor, which can arise when
working in a VOIP environment; here legal and security principles are
answerable. There are few legal and security principles which are
standardized, and need to he followed but do not guarantee 100% safety.
Due to technology upgradation there are various alternatives available
which are less expensive than VOIP and users who are less tech-savvy or
have less technical knowledge might have problem while installing and
using VOIP hence they will prefer alternative available. So, competition
is one of the important factor affecting.
Multi-vendor environment has also created lots of confusion because of
which the technology is not able to get standardized at one level. VOIP
as a product has certain conditions like it cannot function
independently e.g. it is dependent on power outage. Also in order for
smooth running phone jack is required in every room and if cable line is
not functioning or goes out than even phone line stops working.
Lack of emergency reliability and clarity are also two of the major
disadvantages. Sometimes echo is heard on the phone so it becomes
difficult for us to understand what we are speaking and for the front
person as to what are we saying.
