Darjeeling Sightseeing

A perfect outing if you love hills, flowers and simply are in a mood to admire nature. Darjeeling is situated among excellent scenery and a cluster of nursery and tea gardens. The people here are simple and hard working. The climate is cold and it is also known as the land which was frequented by our famous poet Rabindranath Tagore. Surely the scenic view of places like Mungpoo, which was Tagore’s summer abode, must be inspirational in his poetic tones. Mungkoo is famous for Cinchona plants and several rivers flow from this place.

Special food and aromas also waft through the air reflecting the influence of Tibetan culture. Thupkas and other soups are very famous here. The culture is a mixed one with Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity. The songs sung by the traditionally clad tea planters or tea pickers give a ethereal feeling to the pleasant climate of Darjeeling. The haats or fairs in the villages also serve a special Tongba which has to be sipped with a bamboo stick.

Darjeeling certainly beckons a writer or a poet and peace lovers. Sister Nivedita and Tagore spent a lot of time in Kurseong where Tagore composed many of his poems. Mirik is another hilly area with is exotic in its own sense. The scenic view is highlighted with several streams that branch out from rivers or lakes. Darjeeling is also famous for its flora and fauna.

The Ghorkas, sherpas, Lepchas or Rongpas have a distinct personality of their own though all of them are affable by nature. Seeking oneness despite traditional descent the people in Darjeeling love music and dance. The Jhankri and Jatra dance or the Dhan and Maruni naach makes all tourists shake a foot and partake in the happiness. As the vegetation here is rich, the forests abound with special herbs, medicinal plants, maple trees and other fungal growth. The highest peak, Kanchenjunga is viewed by many visitors.

Kalimpong is a famous spot in Darjeeling which again is a paradise in terms of the collection of flowers. The nurseries are well looked after and the view is breathtaking which makes us wonder about the different hues and shapes related to flowers. Cut flowers and Gerbera or gladioli are very famous here. Taking a panoramic view from the hills is exciting. The stay, hotel facilities are congenial.
