 The Marine Plywood is a type of plywood that is used for mainly making marine products mainly Boats. The reason why this plywood is used for making Boats is because it is water Proof. Secondly it can be glued to any surface. Marine plywood is also weather proof that comes in handy for boats during bad weather. One of the main qualities of marine plywood is that it is water proof and as a result used mainly for boats.

Marine plywood is produced in the north eastern states like Uttar Pradesh In India. It is also produced in certain parts of Karnataka. The ship building industries in GOA import almost 10,000 tonnes of wood every year for its boat manufacturing business.

Marine Plywood is produced from woods such as cedar, Spruce, Australian eucalyptus, Cypress, long leaf yellow pine and Douglas fir. While, Douglas fir, Cypress, long leaf yellow pine & Australian eucalyptus types of wood are used for heavy and huge boats, marine plywood made from such as cedar & spruce are used for lightweight and small boats.

Cedar and Spruce types of wood are found in large quantities in Uttar Pradesh. Due to inadequate infrastructure for these industries, the production of marine plywood is not up to the mark. This has had an adverse impact on the Indian plywood industry.

But recently in Feb 2005, the Government of India has announced an aid of Rs. 85 crores in aid of the plywood industries situated in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. This has boosted the morale of these industries and its workers.
