The birth of plywood was happened in the year 1850. A combination of
three or more layers of wood gave birth to the concept of Plywood. Since
it was cheap and easily available, it has been widely used by the
designers since the 1920’s. Another reason why plywood furniture was so popular was because it was easily accessible than its other competitor such as steel and aluminum. Plywood furniture was first put to commercial use by John Henry Belter, who was a German émigré to the US. Plywood furniture was an answer to the architect’s question of making cheap mass producible furniture. Plywood furniture technology also played a role in World War I, when its quality, flexibility and durability were utilized for the aviation industry research. The Indian Plywood industry estimates the Plywood furniture arena to grow by almost 12 times by the year 2008. None of us deny the fact that we dislike plywood furniture as we all have at least a little bit of plywood furniture in or homes.
