boat salvage auctions

One way of getting a cheap boat is attending a salvage auction. A salvage boat is usually one that has been found wrecked, or abandoned, a stolen boat, or else, a boat that has been arrested by the authorities.

If a boat has violated rules and has been claimed by local authorities, the government may auction it off later. Such auctions are subject to maritime laws, of course.

Sometimes, the owners themselves will organize such an auction. Auctioning off of salvaged boats is useful to all parties concerned. If the boat is in good shape, you can get it much cheaper than you would in a shipping-goods store.

If it has been damaged, it is usually bought by those who specialize in repair and rebuilding of vessels, or by someone who wishes to use the boat parts that are still in good condition.

Traditional auctioning involves filling out a bid form and putting down a certain deposit. ~ author Annie Zaidi
