Poliomyelitis is a dangerous disease. There is vaccination against the same in many countries and yet there are some cases reported in the recent years. Total eradiation of this disease must be our motto and the earnest efforts of the government and health centers must be lauded. Polio can cause paralysis of the legs and it can cause serious disability. It is so much vital to take care of
our children and not expose them to such a risk especially when there is
so much of protection possible. Polio is given in the injection form too
but not available in developing countries as it is costly. The
pediatrician insists on OPV or oral dose which has to be given to the
child. Also, the injections for polio can be taken from your pediatrician or also from a registered health care centre. Mild soreness is noticed in the area but otherwise there is no great side effects noticed owing to the polio vaccine. Usually the oral vaccine is given in 7 doses as per the immunization chart in addition to the external dose that is publicized. The OPV method is popular, accessible and not costly and hence is seeing results in many countries. Disclaimer: The author’s articles are provided for general information.
