Baby cooing and
prattle can very well be taken as an initiative from their end
to learn new words. Encourage them and allow them to respond.
Each family has a distinct language at home or generally a
mother tongue is used for conversation. Improving vocabulary is
also about listening to the right pronunciation. Children are
great mimics and hence it always better to talk to them slowly
but without tweaking the pronunciation.
As kids grow, show them picture books or the read aloud ones.
They love colors and you could also tell them about variations
in blue and pink like turquoise or magenta. Make them relate to
these words whenever possible like when you visit a park or a
mall. Board games are a wonderful way to improve kids
vocabulary. Summer vacations can be a creative time by doing the
scrabble or solving the crossword.
Board games also stimulate the mind and hence recommended for
all ages. The best way to increase their vocabulary is to
encourage them to speak the language and gently correct their
misspellings or pronunciation. Some kids are good at expressing
in written words while others love to read. Tell them to read
the bed time story aloud and introduce them to words that are
commonly used.
