Exchanging wedding vows are a part of a Catholic Church
wedding and are recited during the marriage ceremony. It is considered
the most sacred part for the bridal couple in India as they say, “I do”.
First the priest introduces the couple to the people gathered at the
wedding mass and acknowledges their consent to be married that day.
Spiritual songs then follow it. Then there is the gospel reading and a
sermon. The wedding vows are then the next part. The proclamation of the vows is said to be sacred as the couple consents to one another of their love and loyalty for the rest of their lives. The script for the wedding vows is already written by the Church. However some of the contemporary couples prefer to write their own wedding vows. Bringing in a personal touch and a remembrance for the rest of their lives. As a couple if you would like to alter the wedding vows then you have to meet the priest concerned first. To inquire as what can be amended and what has to remain untouched. You can sit with the official in charge to know your options on writing it. Once you have completed always approach the official to know if it is perfect and can be recited. You do not want any last minute changes in it. Also you have to remain relaxed and practice the vows a number of times before the actual day. As you would like to alter and write your own wedding vows make sure your fiancé is a part of it. You can either write is all by yourself or make it a joint effort by considering his opinions and penning what he thinks should be included. Take your own time on this and then get together to analyze what should be the ultimate matter. You can make the wedding vows special by using words like ‘promise, union, love you’. Furthermore you can even write a poem, stating your love for the one you are going to marry in the presence of family and friends. ~ author Karishma Bajaj.
