proofreading jobs

Proof reading jobs:

The general perception of a proofreading job seems to be that it lies with the Newspaper and Publishing companies of the world. But you might be surprised to know that almost all kind of industries where any kind of documentation is done employs a proofreader in some capacity or the other.

Of course, in some cases the job is so limited considering the small number of documents to be proofread, that the job is just cast upon one of unsuspecting employees. But, most organizations still do require proofreaders to correct the punctuation, verb tense, spelling, and sentence structure, find inconsistencies in a document's typeface, font, spacing, alignment, and design.

Now apart from this latest trend in the proofreading jobs, there are various other specializations available. There are proofreaders who specialize completely on any one topic such as medical texts or computer manuals or even law books or construction manuals. A proofreader who specializes in any of these subjects is not expected to know every bone in the human body, or have the ability to rattle off sections under the various laws in his/her sleep. The person simply needs to be familiar with the jargon (why oh why cant they just use simple words instead of introducing tongue twisters in the language in the name of technical terms???) that is generally used to create a very intellectual and forbidden image by all so-called important professions and of course understand the application of it all.

Now do you need any special qualification?

Of course employers would prefer individuals with a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or communication. But don’t you worry, because a large number of employers are also open to the usage of a test to assess the ability of the applicant. And now for the statement that will relieve all those who harbor hopes on doing some proofreading yourselves: Employers do employ people who score highly on these tests regardless of the education levels of the individuals. This job can also be undertaken on a Freelance basis, where you proofread the documents at your discretion and of course the deadlines are in place, but beyond that the flexibility is all yours to stretch.
